It is the chief town of the province of Matanzas. It is not an ideal city to begin a tourist course, but reality is that it is wrongfully neglected and underestimated. It gives on bay of Matanzas, by dominating it the top of a hill and has the advantage of setting up precisely on Carretera Central, the second trunk road connecting Havana in Santiago of Cuba. It constitutes a reasonable industrial center and has a port of remarkable importance, especially after the installation of the terminal for the unloading of the crude oil. But Matanzas does not offer many original things. The places and the streets make another thing only repeat the diagram of the law of the Indies. But, it is all the same affecting to walk on the principal avenue. Good base to visit the surroundings: - Varadero - Cueva Saturno (arrive towards 10 a.m. before the tourist buses of Varadero… the entry is to 5 $CUC/people + 5 $CUC to have the right to take photographs + 1 $CUC for the carpark…) - El rancho Gaviota: it is one swindles for the tourists of Varadero (to be avoided). Lodging: Paraiso Diaz - Duque Ing. Shine Alberto Valdès Will counter (79), 28205 2nd stage such: 24.3397 |
