NEPAL - 4 : TATOPANI - TUKUCHE

Nepal Tatopani to Ghasa.

It is a rather short stage (6 hours) with many landscapes along the wild throats of Gandaki Kali. We are in Mustang country.

The vegetation and the architecture of the houses change. The path goes up then until orée of the forest and starts by facing the escarpments of the throats while passing close to the villages of Dana (1463m), Title (1524m) and close to the cascades of Rupse Chahara. Dana has houses with the windows and balconies finely carved. The inhabitants are of Magars.

Towards the hamlet of Rupse Chahara, a beautiful cascade falls in several rebounds and actuates several water mills. The path crosses then the river on a bridge and continuous to go up and go down during a long moment. After crosshaving again crossed the river, one arrives at Ghasa (2012m). The surrounding mountains begin to be retimbered fir trees.

Ghasa to Tukuche

The path crosses the most spectacular part of the Gandaki Kali which runs in a deep throat which separates Dhaulagiri from Annapurnas snow-covered. One starts by going up rather quickly under the sun in wood until Kolapani (2560m), then Larjung and Dhumpus. These villages of Mustang, with very beautiful old houses, are very typical.

An eagle comes to observe us. In wood Pim declares me that bears and tigers live in freedom.

After having crossed a multitude of bridges out of wooden which live only at the dry season, we reach pleasant the small village of Tukche (2592m). The night in Tukche guesthouse makes it possible to recover.
