The enigmatic and mysterious lines were discovered by chance in 1939 by American Paul Kosok during an overflight of the area whereas it worked on the networks of aqueducts. Among all the geometrical lines of gigantic size which are there, one identified 18 animal figures engraved in the ground, of which a monkey, a spider, birds, a lizard and a dog. Lines and drawings cross even valleys and mountains, like strange the man-owl or extraterrestrial man.
The situation of these giant lines in the middle of the arid desert which does not record that very weak annual precipitations allowed that these lines are protected from the erosion and the ravages of time.
The existence of the lines of Nazca raises more than one question, but the first which comes to mind is undoubtedly the following one: since it is impossible to observe them with same the ground, for which were they traced and by which means?
One does not succeed in drawing perfectly figures in the face varies between 50 m and 300 m in an extremely approximate way. These drawings are thus the result of a long methodical work and very precis. The natural stones which rested on the ground were carefully removed, and the furrow thus formed was bordered by some of them in order to showing its relief more.
Several tried to elucidate the mystery which always surrounds these strange géoglyphes. Despite everything, the questions fuse of everywhere and the seriously documented answers are made rare not to say non-existent. Since the discovery of the lines, some, with court of arguments, have even advanced that they are the result of the intervention the extraterrestrial ones. The years are followed and the lines of Nazca continue to astound the tourists and to disconcert the historians. Their message is perhaps registered in the ground, but the desert always refuses to reveal its secrecies.
