ITALY - ROME

Italy Rome is the capital city of Italy and of the Lazio region, as well as the country's largest and most populous comune, with more than 2.7 million residents. The metropolitan area has a population of about 4 million. It is located in the central-western portion of the Italian peninsula, where the river Aniene joins the Tiber.

An enclave of Rome is the State of the Vatican City, the sovereign territory of the Holy See. It is the smallest nation in the world, and the capital of the only religion to have representation in the United Nations.

Rome, Caput mundi ('capital of the world'), la Città Eterna ('the Eternal City'), Limen Apostolorum ('threshold of the Apostles'), la città dei sette colli ('the city of the seven hills') ( name of the 7 hills: Aventin, Cælius, Capitole, Esquilin, Palatin, Quirinal et Viminal) or simply l'Urbe ('the City'), is thoroughly modern and cosmopolitan. As one of the few major European cities that escaped World War II relatively unscathed, central Rome remains essentially Renaissance and Baroque in character.

The Historic Centre of Rome is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

According to legend, the city of Rome was founded by the twins Romulus and Remus on April 21, 753 BC.

Not to be missed during your stay in Rome:
The Roman Empire
Mainly with the Coliseum.
The Vatican

There are really a lot of things to see in Rome. If you really want to visit this city in details stay at least a week.

To get around Rome, there is Bus and Subway. In October 2007, prices were as follows:
1 euro for a ticket valid for 75 minutes for all bus and only one way in subway.
4 euros ticket valid for 24 hours for all bus and all subway desired.

For your stay, I give a good address. It is an apartment cheap and with a good location in Rome.
