The ancient city of Pingyao, located at two hundred km of Taiyuan, capital the province of Shanxi (northern), underwent only few changes since the dynasty Ming (1368-1644), and was registered in 1997 with the world inheritance of UNESCO thanks to its high ramparts which surround the city, its well preserved streets, its stores, its temples and with its residential residences built during the dynasties of Ming and Qing (1644-1911).
The ramparts of the town of Pingyao of today, one of the oldest walls and broadest of China, were rebuilt in 1370 on the basis of old city. With a circumference of 6.200 m, the ramparts measure six to ten meters in height with a top from three to six meters broad. They have six doors of city and four turrets surrounded by ditch a four meters basic and four meters broad.
