With the borders of the province of Guangdong, Hongkong includes the island of Hongkong, the peninsula of Kowloon, the New Territories and an archipelago of 235 islands and small islands, adding up a surface of 1091 km2. This unit enjoys a subtropical climate to the mode of monsoons.
After the War of Opium in 1840, the government of the dynasty of Qing had to yield the island of Hongkong and to rent Kowloon successively and the New Territories in Great Britain. Pursuant to the joint Declaration sino-British, signed in September 1984, China took again on July 1, 1997 the exercise of his sovereignty on Hongkong which became a special administrative area of China.
Hongkong has 6 million inhabitants of which more than 95% are Chinese.
Hongkong is an international center of trade and manufacturing industry, and one of the most important financial markets. Hongkong is a tourist high-place in Asia. Called 'Pearl of the East', Hongkong has many hotels of luxury, innumerable restaurants, rich person cultural vestiges, famous shopping centres, beautiful beaches and a good infrastructure.
There is very little hotel for routards. It should be noted that it is possible to make Canton - HongKong in 1h30 by train.
