It is the capital of the province of Hunan, located at the edge of the Xiang river whose long sandy island gave him its name.
This city is also the symbol of the birth of Chinese Communism, and presents some crowned places for the nostalgic peoples of Mao Zedong. Mao passed his youth to the school of CHANGSHA SHIFAN during a few years. He met his first wife here.
We have walked in the city (it is large…), then across the bridge of Xiang Jiang to go in the park of Yuèlu Gongyuan (park in hillside, which enable to dominate the city). The centre town is not too badly, we have dined in a super Japanese restaurant (with travelling carpet).

Double room at 16 euros (the hotel had just opened… do not hesitate to negotiate the price). Bedrooms are superb and the hotel is well placed - > good plan!
Then one travelled by the train for Zhangjiajie (5h of way).
