China - Xishuangbanna (region)

The region of Xishuangbanna is located in southern Yunnan, just on the border with China, Laos and Burma (Myanmar). The northern Thailand, which is wedged between the two countries is only 200 or 300 km from there.

This region is keen to Thailand as on the architecture of the temple, the traditional dress for women… you will find many Thai restaurant and Thais who settled in China.

The climate is pleasant (subtropical).

In this part of China is different peoples, ethnic minorities or local. As the Dai, Han, Jinuo, Aini, Bulang, Lisu, Yao, Lahu, Wa…

By visiting the region you will have the opportunity to see these minorities in their environments and their customs. But I think the new generations of these people aspire to live as their compatriots cities, so traditions are being lost.

You can discover these cultures among other things:

-- Rainforest Banna Valley (here were rather Aini)
-- Jinuo village culture (rather have as the name suggests of the people Jinuo)
-- Dai Sprinkling water festival (festival of the water in the culture Dai)

All these places are well paid and relatively expensive. Count between 100 and 150 yuan per person. Do one for you accountable. They really made for tourists, and people that you will see are, I think, actors contrast that we will tell you. But you can still see how these people lived. You will see, among other old women with long necks, with long earlobes or with small teeth and red due to their diet.

The main town of Xishuangbanna is Jinghong. It is possible to turn it into a base camp. For more information, I refer you to Jinghong.
